Red Robin: Ensenada Chicken Platter

Last night we went out to Red Robin for dinner, before catching a late-night showing of The Thing.  the last 2 times we went to Red Robin, I ordered a lettuce-wrapped grilled chicken breast with tomato, onion and pickle, and a side of steamed broccoli. Actually very tasty, and healthy and on plan.

Last night I decided to try something I've eyeballed on the RR menu for a long time, the Chicken Ensenada Platter.  I've always wanted to try it but usually would go for a burger, of course.

I tried to find the nutrition facts for this bad boy online but they are different on every single one of the websites I found, sort of hilarious, really.

This comes with 1 or 2 chicken breasts (I picked 2, since I am on a protein heavy diet).  They are marinated in some sort of tasty ancho sauce which added a lot of great flavor.  There is also a side salad made from lettuce, red cabbage, cheddar cheese and crunchy tortilla strips.  I promptly donated the tortilla strips to Dawn's own salad, and did my best to avoid the cheddar cheese (which is off plan).

2 sauces come with this - a 'fiesta lime ranch' sauce (which I told them not to bring me) and a salsa.

I ate this by cutting a piece of chicken, then stabbing some of the lettuce, stabbing the chicken, and lightly dipping it into the salsa.  I have to say, it was very tasty and I would be happy ordering it again.  The only X factor in this dish for me is the marinade used to cook the chicken, but it wasn't very heavy or oily.

Thumbs up! Juicy chicken, crunchy lettuce and a nice mild salsa made for an excellent meal.  Cutting out the ranch, tortilla strips and cheese, I dodged the vast majority of the fat content of the meal.

My best guess is about 400 calories, most from protein. A little fat here perhaps from the marinade, minimal carbs.

I have 4 chicken breasts in the fridge, I'm thinking I am going to try my own version of this recipe tonight for dinner.  Pounding them out, marinading with some lime juice, Mexican spices, etc. Then pan cooking.  It's a protein day for me, so no veggies - but the side salad isn't exactly rocket science, just lettuce. Some other time perhaps. ;)
